If you are a comic book nerd like my husband, you HAVE to visit a comic book shop every town you go to. The cool think about comic book shops is that they are usually locally owned and operated! I love hole in the wall comic book shops, book stores and record stores. They just have that atmosphere of authenticity that other stores don’t have. So read on to find out more about Waco Bookstores, Waco Comic Book Stores, and Waco Hobby Shops!
Locally Owned Waco Bookstores
Bankston’s Comics & Collectibles
The number one place in Waco Texas to get comic books and collectibles is Bankston’s. Bankston’s is located on South Valley Mills Drive near Subway. When you first walk in, you will be greeted by the friendly cashier. You can then peruse the comic books on the walls to the right or check out all of the toys and sports memoriabilia to your left. They will even order comic books for you supposedly. My husband ordered one once and was on a “list” but every time he came back he was still on the mysterious “list”. He never got the comic book, but we don’t know what happened either. Maybe they were out of stock or something.
Anyways that hasn’t stopped us from going back for more and more! We love going to this store and even dare to bring the kids from time to time. They have toys so kids love the place. You just have to make sure they don’t break anything that’s valuable! They have most of the valuable toys and comics behind glass so its really not that big of a problem to bring your kids. I bought some really cool kids DC books there, that my daughter loved! Here are some of the cool kids books I got there.
DC Kid’s Books from Bankston’s
This is a book for little girls (and boys) all about GIRL POWER! I love this book. It has DC characters, so my baby girl is learning about super heros and how special it is to be a girl!
This spread is awesome. It has actual vintage real dc comic book characters from the actual comics. I love it!
This is my favorite spread from the book! Batgirl is my favorite! Not only that, it says she can program a computer to do anything. (Kind of reminds me of myself haha.)
There are many other of these kids DC books available. I got mine a few years ago….notice the gunky water marks on the book from sticky hands…but they are still available on Amazon.
Wizards of Odds
This isn’t a book store, but its right next to Golden’s Book Exchange. Wizards of odds is another unique place you can buy collectibles at. This store has stuff for hippies, pot heads, and stoners. I’m just telling it like it is. That is what this store is all about. So go check it out yourself!
Golden’s Book Exchange
This is another cool book shop that has all kinds of books and comics! It is close to the Wizards of Odds store on Franklin Avenue. They have books, comics, and some collectibles too. You can also sell your old books to them so its a win/win situation!
Check out the cool blow up spidey they have in the store.
If you are a book lover, you have to check out this store. They have tons of books in every genre you can imagine…such as paranormal romance. Now that Hastings is out of business, this is the one of the only places you can buy and sell used books. They even have a section where you can buy 20 books for $1.
Another used book store is Brazos Books. They also have several genres of used books for super cheap! It is located next to Schmalt’z sandwiches. So you can get a sandwich and then go check out the books!
This is a chain store, but I never hear of it until it opened up next to Jason’s Deli. They have lots of hobby toys like model cars and airplanes. They have all kinds of accessories for trains and cars, like tracks and parts and what not. They also have board games and kids toys.
Other Waco Bookstores
Ok so those aren’t the ONLY places to buy books and comics, but they are the local shops. Waco also has a Barnes & Noble store, which is pretty good, but its pricey compared to the local book stores. They have started having more and more toys collectibles now that Toy’s R Us and Hastings have closed.
Chip and Joanna Gaines Books
And while you’re in Waco, don’t forget to pick up a few Chip and Joanna Gaines and Magnolia Market Classics!
There are some really cool local book stores in Waco that you need to check out! Do you know of any Waco Bookstores that I have missed? Let me know in the comments!
